The Why
Meditation isn't magic — it's a specific pattern of neural, respiratory and cardiovascular changes. Here's the short version of what each modality is actually doing inside you.
Every meditation in the library is tuned to encourage one of these bands. Binaural beats nudge, they don't force — your own state, posture and breath do most of the work.
Delta
0.5 – 4 Hz
Deep, dreamless sleep. Physical restoration, immune repair.
Binaural entrainment in delta is used for sleep induction and grief work — anything that asks the body to fully surrender.
Theta
4 – 8 Hz
Deep meditation, hypnagogia, creative reverie, memory consolidation.
Theta is the state most closely associated with insight and with the felt sense of being 'somewhere else' — perfect for grounding and imagery.
Alpha
8 – 12 Hz
Relaxed alertness. Eyes-closed calm. Flow states.
The workhorse of daytime meditation. Alpha rises when the visual cortex idles and the default mode network softens.
Beta
12 – 30 Hz
Ordinary waking cognition, focused work, conversation.
Low beta is useful for pre-decision clarity. High beta correlates with anxiety, which is why our beta session is short and precise.
Gamma
30 – 100 Hz
Binding of information, peak concentration, expert meditators.
Gamma has been recorded at unusually high levels in long-term meditators, especially during compassion practices.
Vagal Tone
The vagus nerve wanders from the brainstem down through the heart, lungs, and gut. High vagal tone is associated with emotional regulation, better digestion, and resilience. Slow exhales, low humming, cold water on the face, and long imagery-driven states all raise it.
Default Mode Network
The DMN generates the internal monologue, self-referential thought, and rumination. Meditation reliably reduces DMN activity — which is why sessions feel like coming back to a wider, quieter version of yourself.
Binaural Beats
When each ear hears a slightly different frequency, the brain perceives a third tone at their difference. That perceived beat can gently entrain cortical rhythms toward it — nudging you toward the target state without any subliminal trickery.
Explore the frequency lab →Interoception
Interoception is your sense of internal state — heartbeat, hunger, temperature, tension. Somatic meditation trains it, and stronger interoception is linked to better emotional regulation and reduced anxiety.
